An Indian Transgender Couple's Viral Pregnancy Photo Shoot.

An Indian transgender couple's viral pregnancy photo shoot.

A photoshoot of a transgender couple in the Indian state of Kerala, who is expecting a baby soon, has gone viral. 21-year-old Zia Powell is overjoyed that her 23-year-old partner Zahid is pregnant and the doctors have told her that the baby will be born on February 9.

Although the delivery date was earlier set for next month, Zahid was admitted to the hospital on Monday due to diabetes. Zia told BBC that the baby will be born on February 9. Zia laughed when asked what people were saying about the baby's birth.

The transgender community is quite content, but Zia acknowledged that some people both inside and outside the community still hold onto antiquated ideas. They are aware that trans males cannot have parents, yet it makes no difference to them. While Zahid was born a female but now wishes to be called a boy, Zia was born a boy but wanted to be called "Ma." Three years ago, the two met in the state's Kozhikode district.

We made the decision to have a child one and a half years ago

Zahid's ovaries and uterus were not removed as she was undergoing testosterone hormonal therapy while Zia was undergoing hormone therapy for her preferred sex. Zia says, "About a year and a half ago we decided to have a child, at that time we stopped hormonal therapy on the doctor's advice."

We asked if you both came together to have a baby. On this question, Zia laughed and said, "No, we just fell in love." Long after they were separated from their respective families for various reasons, their relationship grew.

Zia stated, "I hail from a traditional Muslim family that never permitted me to study classical dance. My hair was cut short because they were such old-fashioned people that I was unable to dance. I went to a youth festival and didn't come home afterward.

The tale of Zahid is comparable. He comes from a family of Christians. When Zahid informed his parents of the pregnancy, they changed their perspective. He began assisting Zohad after she became pregnant. But can this couple support a child financially?

In answer, Zia explains that "life is incredibly hard. Zahid is an accountant, and I work with young children teaching dance. He began by working at the government-built Gender Park in Thiruvananthapuram.

According to doctors, the couple will give birth just like any other man and woman would. Doctors could not be approached for comment since they are not permitted to speak to the media about the subject.

Complex hormone therapy

Endocrinologist Dr. Mahesh DM treats transgender patients at Bengaluru's Easter CMI Hospital. They can resume sex hormone medication and pursue their inclinations once the pregnancy cycle is over, he told the BBC. Up until the age of 40, there is no issue as long as the ovaries and uterus are not removed.

Dr. Mahesh was involved in a case of a woman having her sex changed. Adam Harry decided to alter his gender from female to male since he wanted to be a pilot. Zia and Zahid have been informed that they can legally get married once the gender reassignment procedure is finished and the new gender has been entered on their certificates.

Zia and Zahid, however, are the first transgender couple to have children?
Nobody in the transgender community has yet to refer to themselves as true parents, Zia stated while grinning.
