General Raheel Sharif is most likely to become a Defense Advisor for the Saudi-led military coalition.

A military coalition of 39 Muslim nations led by Saudi Arabia is poised to name former Chief of Army Staff General (r) Raheel Sharif as its defense advisor to combating terrorism, according to a Pakistani daily on Thursday.


Raheel Sharif, who just left his position as head of the Pakistani army, has landed in Saudi Arabia as a royal guest.


His honor has been accorded with a lavish reception in Riyadh, the capital of the Saudi Arabian Kingdom. The Saudi Royal family members will also be present.

The Joint Command Centre, the headquarters of the military alliance is located in Riyadh. The coalition was formed by the efforts of Crown Prince Muhammad bin Nayef.

"The coalition was established to combat ISIS and other extremist groups. According to Saudi Arabia, the alliance originally consisted of 34 nations but has since grown to 39.


The 39-nation alliance, which will have its command center in Riyadh, will include Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Benin, Turkey, Chad, Togo, Tunisia, Djibouti, Senegal, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Gabon, Guinea, Palestine, Comoros, Qatar, Cote d'Ivoire, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Maldives, Mali, Malaysia, Egypt, Morocco,

 

There are also rumors that Oman has joined the Muslim alliance under Saudi leadership.
According to The News, which cited sources, "the sultanate expressed its willingness to join the alliance in a letter to Saudi Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman."


The Saudi offer is made in light of Raheel's growing popularity in Pakistan and the west as a result of the military operation Zarb-e-Azb, which was a huge success and significantly improved Pakistan's law and order situation.
